Harvest Festival – 9th October

On Harvest Sunday, we are invited to make our thank-offerings either in cash for Asylum Welcome or in Kind for Abingdon Food Bank. Information about goods needed by the Food Bank is provided at https://trinityabingdon.org.uk/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Harvest.pdf

The needs which Asylum Welcome seeks to meet are constantly increasing in the year 2021/22 the number helped grew by 60%. They are assisting refugees from Afghanistan in danger from the Taliban and Ukrainians fleeing the Russian invasion. These are in addition to the steady stream of those seeking refuge from oppression, famine and unrest in other parts of the world.

The refugees often arrive with very few possessions and are not allowed to
work for six months. The small allowance they receive is soon exhausted and the food Bank is a life-line for many of them.
