Church in Abingdon

Trinity Church Abingdon

Serving God, serving each other, serving community.

Marjorie Wallis (1925 – 2019)

Marjorie was an intrinsic part of our church family at Trinity for many, many years. She had been a devoted volunteer at Trinity Todder group for some 34 years, and for many families was the face of Trinity Church as she greeted them at the door week by week. She was also an active participant at Evergreens, the Friendship group, and the Thursday group.

She was also for many years a Sunday School teacher at the Congregational Church on the Square before they joined with Trinity. She and the family moved into the family house in Darrell Way, Abingdon when it was first built in 1953.

There was a lovely funeral service on Friday 18th October 2019. Marjorie had left instructions in her old bible from the Congregational years. She loved to sing and it included three hymns: Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us; The Lord’s my shepherd (Stuart Townsend version); and Jesus is Lord. Deacon Selina Nisbett gave the address and described Marjorie as ‘a very dear friend’. Marjorie’s son Alan (a Minister elsewhere) gave the Eulogy and then passed the microphone round for other contributions. Marjorie’s instructions ended with don’t forget to book the caterer. We all joined together afterwards in the Conduit Centre for a good spread. Marjorie asked for donations in her memory for Trinity Church.

Condolences to her family near and far, and friends, who will feel her loss greatly and we hold them in prayer.
